PostSubject: [The Gimp] Adding Fonts   Sat 1 Mar - 20:20

Adding fonts to The Gimp can be very handy, whether for filling a graphics request or for personal use.
However, it may not always be as simple as it seems.

So, let's started Very Happy

Getting the Fonts

http://www.dafont.com/
http://simplythebest.net/fonts/
http://urbanfonts.com/

As you can see, there are many website that propose free fonts to download. Dafont is the most used/known, and probably has the largest selection of availiable fonts. If you don't find your liking, you can always search via Google for other sites Wink

To get the wanted font, click download and save the .zip file.

Installing the Fonts on your Computer

Windows Xp
Open Windows Explorer and go to the .zip file you've just registered. Right-click and press Extract here. Take the .tiff file (the font you've downloaded) and copy it (Ctrl+C).
Go to: My Computer > C-Drive > Windows > Fonts, and paste (Ctrl+V) your font there.

Windows Vista

Linux

Your font is now availiable on your computer Very Happy

Installing the Font on The Gimp

It would be nice if what was previously done had sufficed, but unfortunately this might not always be the case.

Windows XP
Go to: My Computer > C-Drive > Documents and Settings > {Session Name} > .gimp- > fonts
And copy your fonts in there as well Wink

Windows Vista

Linux

Normally, this should suffice, if not, then you'll want to check where The Gimp goes to get the fonts it can use. For that:
Open The Gimp, then go: File > Preferences => Files => Fonts. And make sure bith paths mentionned earlier are present Wink

They we go, you should be able to install all the fonts you could want on The Gimp, provided there's still enough memory for them Laughing

Bonus

What, you want a bonus?
Oh alright, just because it's you:

Ever seen a piece of graphics and thought: Man, if only I knew which font was used
Or a graphics request and wondered: What ****ing font does he want the image to match?

Well, why not try this site around here:

I added a font to The Gimp by coping it in C:\Program Files\Gimp 2.0\etc\fonts\conf.avail folder.
